Villaraigosa Supports California Lawsuit Against Trump’s Unlawful Abuse of Power Federalizing National Guard without a Request from the Governor


LOS ANGELES – Antonio Villaraigosa, former Speaker of the California Assembly and 41st Mayor of Los Angeles, released the following statement calling for peaceful protests against President Trump’s military-style mass deportation ICE raids and his unlawful abuse of power federalizing California’s national guard without a request from the Governor.

“I support people exercising their first amendment Constitutional Rights with peaceful demonstrations. We must stand together in support of immigrant families who are being torn apart by Trump’s military-style mass deportation ICE raids, just as we must oppose with legal action Trump’s unlawful abuse of power federalizing California’s national guard. Violent protests are not the answer, and I condemn them. Don't give Trump the chaos and violence he wants. We must fight Trump’s hatred and chaos with peace and non-violence.”
