ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA: “TEARING THE COMMUNITY AND FAMILIES APART IS SIMPLY WRONG, AND WE MUST STAND TOGETHER AGAINST IT”

LOS ANGELES — Antonio Villaraigosa, former Speaker of the California Assembly and 41st Mayor of Los Angeles, released the following statement about the escalating immigration raids in California by the Trump Administration:

“These military style mass deportation ICE raids are outrageous and have gone too far, tearing families apart, threatening public safety and human rights. I stand with David Huerta, Service Employees International Union California President, and a U.S. citizen, who was injured and detained by the federal government for exercising his First Amendment right to observe and document the extreme raids on our community. The federal government’s focus should be on securing the border and deporting violent criminals, not arresting working families and labor leaders. Tearing the community and families apart is simply wrong and we must stand together against it.”

Antonio Villaraigosa is a candidate for Governor of California and the proven problem solver we need to lead our state. As our next Governor, Villaraigosa will bring experience solving tough problems and getting big things done on issues that matter like making neighborhoods safe, improving schools, creating jobs, and bringing down costs for small businesses, middle-class families, and all Californians.
