VILLARAIGOSA STATEMENT ON $267 MILLION HOSPICE FRAUD BUST
LOS ANGELES, CA —Following the announcement that California authorities dismantled a $267 million hospice fraud scheme in Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa has released the following statement:
“The scale of fraud here is staggering, but it is not isolated. It is the tip of the iceberg. A criminal network exploited Medi-Cal, stole identities, and billed hundreds of millions for care that was never provided.
During COVID, California had widespread unemployment fraud. Less than a year ago, California was unable to audit $24B in homelessness spending. This latest fraud points to a deep, structural problem in our state government, and California needs a proven problem solver to root out fraud and corruption.
As Governor, I will crack down on misuse of public funds and ensure taxpayer dollars actually reach the people they are meant to serve.”
