KTVU: Villaraigosa named a prominent Bay Area Democrat, Former Sen. Barbara Boxer to help head his campaign for California governor

Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has named a prominent Bay Area Democrat to help head his campaign for California governor. Villaraigosa announced that former US Senator Barbara Boxer will co-chair his campaign. The former senator had been a top endorser of Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, who withdrew her candidacy in the governor's race last week. Now, in a statement, Boxer says, Villaraigosa, is “the right leader at the right time to lead our state as governor, and would make history as the first Latino to be elected Governor of California.”
