VILLARAIGOSA ENDORSED BY THE CALIFORNIA FEDERATION OF LABOR UNIONS

Coalition Representing over 2.4 million Workers Backs Villaraigosa for Governor

LOS ANGELES — The California Federation Labor Union today announced its endorsement of Antonio Villaraigosa for Governor of California.

“California’s working men and women are the backbone of our economy. I’m honored to have the support of the California Labor Federation and the more than 2.4 million workers they represent,” said Villaraigosa. “As a former labor leader, Speaker of the Assembly, and Mayor of Los Angeles, I’ve spent a lifetime fighting for an economy that creates good-paying jobs and expands economic opportunity for working and middle class families. As Governor, I will build more housing, modernize our infrastructure, and bring down the cost of living so that every Californian who works hard can afford to live and thrive in our great state.”

Representing more than 2.4 million union workers across the state, the Federation's endorsement makes clear that California's labor movement sees Villaraigosa as the candidate best positioned to deliver on the priorities that matter most to working families. The California Labor Federation is the state affiliate of the AFL-CIO and the largest labor organization in California, with affiliated unions spanning construction, healthcare, education, public service, manufacturing, and hospitality.

The endorsement adds to a growing coalition of labor support for Villaraigosa, which already includes the California Building and Construction Trades Council, Operating Engineers Local 3, the California Statewide Association of Electrical Workers, the California State Pipe Trades Council, the District Council of Iron Workers of California and the Vicinity, the Los Angeles/Orange County Building Trades Council, and more unions representing California's working families.
