ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA ENDORSED BY DISTRICT COUNCIL OF IRON WORKERS
Villaraigosa Continues Building Momentum in CA Governor Race
LOS ANGELES – Antonio Villaraigosa, Former Speaker of the California Assembly and 41st Mayor of Los Angeles, has received another major, statewide labor endorsement from the District Council of Iron Workers (DCIW) of California and the Vicinity. Villaragosa’s endorsements from major, statewide labor unions shows that California is ready for a governor who is a proven problem solver and committed to building our state and fighting for working families.
“Antonio Villaraigosa knows California faces tough problems, and he’s got a proven record of positive results during tough times," said David Osborne, President of DCIW. “Iron Workers trust Mayor Villaraigosa. He’s ready and committed to getting the job done as Governor. Antonio understands what it means to build – not just structures, but careers, communities, and opportunity. He has stood with labor his entire career. Now, we are proud to stand with him.”
“I’m honored to have the support of the District Council of Iron Workers. These hard working men and women are literally building the backbone of our state, and I am proud to stand with them as we build our state’s future together,” Villaraigosa said. “I have said this before: to make California affordable again, to overcome some of our toughest challenges, we need to build – from housing supply to renewable energy capacity, and water storage, expand vocational education and apprenticeship programs, and streamline construction projects creating good-paying union jobs.”
This week, Villaraigosa announced the first statewide union endorsement of the election cycle from the CA-NV Conference of Operating Engineers, making him the only candidate for Governor who has earned multiple labor union endorsements representing tens of thousands of workers.
