VILLARAIGOSA CELEBRATES APPROVAL OF K LINE NORTHERN EXTENSION: A PROMISE KEPT TO LOS ANGELES

LOS ANGELES, CA —  Antonio Villaraigosa today celebrated the LA Metro Board’s approval of the K Line Northern Extension, a project he fought to fund when he championed Measure R as Mayor of Los Angeles.

“Today is a great day for Los Angeles. My mom rode the bus her whole life, and I lived through her struggle with public transit. That’s why I fought to pass Measure R and build transit that connects our communities,” said Antonio. “The K Line is a promise we made to the people of this city, and today the Metro Board kept that promise.”

As Mayor, Antonio led the campaign to pass Measure R, the half-cent sales tax that funds the K Line and transit projects across LA County. He then took LA from 16th to 1st in federal transportation funding by putting up the city’s own money and leveraging it to bring back billions from Washington.

“This is what happens when leaders invest in their communities and follow through,” said Villaraigosa. “Working families who spend hours on the road, neighborhoods that have waited too long to be connected. Today, we’re one step closer to the city they were promised.”
