THE LOS ANGELES PORT POLICE ASSOCIATION ENDORSE VILLARAIGOSA FOR GOVERNOR
Los Angeles Port Police Association Cites Villaraigosa’s “Long History of Supporting Law Enforcement…He Is the Governor We Need to Lead This State”
LOS ANGELES – Antonio Villaraigosa, former Speaker of the California State Assembly and 41st Mayor of Los Angeles, announces endorsement from the Los Angeles Port Police Association, which represents more than 300 sworn officers and civilian personnel along 43 miles of waterfront.
Diane Kelly, President of the Los Angeles Port Police Association, said:
"Antonio Villaraigosa has a long history of supporting law enforcement in the city of Los Angeles, including officers at the Port of Los Angeles. As Mayor, he hired nearly 1,000 new police officers and standardized police training throughout the city of Los Angeles, helping reduce violent crime by 48% during his time in office. He understands the needs of working families and has always stood with labor throughout his career. He is the governor we need to lead this state."
"I'm honored to have the support of the Los Angeles Port Police Association and am committed to ensuring the safety of all Californians as governor," said Villaraigosa. "I am a proven problem solver who will work every day to take on California's toughest challenges. The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest port in the United States and has been deeply impacted by the Trump tariffs. As Governor, I will defend the jobs, security, and economic contributions of our ports."
This endorsement is the latest in a series of major union endorsements for Villaraigosa, following statewide and local endorsements from: Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), the largest public safety organization to endorse in the Governor's race, State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, California State Association of Electrical Workers, California State Pipe Trades Council, the California-Nevada Conference of Operating Engineers, the District Council of Iron Workers (DCIW) of California and the Vicinity, and Operating Engineers Local 3.
