Villaraigosa Calls on Regulators and Lawmakers to Block Access to ‘Online Predictive Markets’ in California

Los Angeles, CA — Antonio Villaraigosa is drawing a clear line on so-called “prediction markets” operating in California that are violating state law, undermining tribal sovereignty, and harming consumers by operating with no regulation or oversight.

“California voters explicitly banned online sports wagering, and have repeatedly and overwhelmingly cemented exclusive tribal gaming rights in California,” declared Antonio Villaraigosa. “These predictive markets are unregulated and illegal. This isn’t innovation, this is a defiance of California voters, our laws, and tribal sovereignty.”
