TRUMP’S RECKLESS IRAN WAR IS PUTTING CALIFORNIA IN THE CROSSHAIRS

LOS ANGELES, CA — President Donald Trump’s decision to launch a war with Iran without a clear strategy is placing Californians directly in harm’s way while driving up already painful energy costs. New reporting indicates federal authorities warned that Iran had considered retaliating against the United States with a potential drone attack launched from a vessel off the West Coast targeting locations in California.

“California families are waking up to the consequences of a reckless foreign policy,” said Antonio Villaraigosa. “President Trump started a war with Iran without a plan for what comes next, and now Californians are paying the price at the pump and with our national security. As Governor, my top priority will always be to protect the safety of Californians and our state’s economic security – and right now, Trump has failed us with both.”

Escalating military conflict has already destabilized the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping routes for oil and gas, where shipping disruptions and reported mine deployments have threatened global energy supplies. About one-fifth of the world’s oil normally passes through the Strait, and disruptions there have already caused major swings in global oil prices and raised fears of further spikes that will hit California drivers hardest.
